You Have Time

You you have time, don’t use it as just another excuse not to do.

Let’s think about it.

How much time do you have left?

In your day. The week. In the month or year.

What about in your life?

It’s funny. We can answer the short term like it’s a given, but when it comes to your life it’s a big ol’ question mark.

Because we kinda know that we don’t really know.

However, we could still guess based on averages and family history.

Let’s say we live until 80-85 on average. Where does that put you?

For me that would mean I have upwards of 46 years left.

Considering that’s 7 years MORE than I’ve already lived to this point, it’s difficult to understand what that means.

Even if it was 30 more, 20 more or only 10 more.

10 years is a pretty long time when you think about it.

Looking back you might think 10 years have flown by, but looking ahead it’s hard to imagine what that looks like.

If you take everything you have done, learned, experienced, and built up as skills and focused all of those onto a singular objective, what do you think you could accomplish in 10 years.

My guess is a whole fucking lot!!

Because if we’re living those years in passive mode. Cycling through the same shit and the same schedule. Waiting for the next season of our favourite Netflix show to be released.

Then that’s a long-ass, boring-as-hell life story.

But if we’re living those years with intention, with goals, with purpose? Then there is a shit ton of work that can get done.

Because you have time!

Now, let’s apply this thinking to fitness.

Honestly, I’m sick and tired of people who can’t look at fitness past a 30-90 day goal. The amount of 12 week programs to drop pounds and shred fat is mind boggling.

Yet the amount of people getting those results can probably be tracked by one person as a part time gig.

It’s pathetic.

Because when you look at fitness as a 30 day thing, you’re always flipping back and forth between on and off. You bounce back and forth between the extremes and nothing stays constant.

Because your efforts fluctuate, so do your results.

No matter what you do or how hard you push short term, most people always come back to their baseline. Whatever they’ve always done, living a passive life.

Now, lets’ go back to the having time thing.

What would happen if you looked at fitness as how you want to physically live for those 10, 20, 50 years we were talking about?

I sure hope it would look a lot different than the 30-90 day goals.

It should, because you have time.

You can pace yourself and you don’t have to go to such extremes.

You’d set up a plan to get yourself to a sustainable place, and at a pace you can handle.

You would stay focused on the long term and stop stressing about any short term changes.

And that’s what it looks like when fitness is a lifestyle.

Sustainable, patient, long-term.

Why?

Because you have time.
