I’m publishing this post at 11:59pm my time to make a bit of a point.
I’ve set out a goal to write an article daily for at least 101 days.
It’s already been 10 days since I started publishing them online.
A few times so far I’ve struggled to get the article done in time. Ideally I want to have it written and go live in the mornings, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Life tends to get in the way some days, especially with a 3 year old and a 3 month old.
Fluctuations with my schedule means sometimes I get the article done first thing. Other days I’m not even getting to start on it until after the boys of in bed.
However, when I do get the opportunity to do it first thing it always feels great to get it done and out of the way.
Any time I do it late at night I tend to stress about it a little. I want to make sure I don’t forget, so it’s constantly on my mind throughout the day.
Sometimes I even question if I’m doing it properly if it’s happening late at night.
But the truth is, the goal is daily. As long as I finish before I go to sleep, that counts as a success.
The good thing is that the articles are getting done, even if they are a little late some days.
And that’s the main focus.
It doesn’t matter if it’s 6am, 6pm or even 11:59pm at night. I’ve satisfied my goal as long as it’s done and online.
And that’s the importance of having a clear goal.
It’s easy to get demotivated or start justifying successes and failures when your goals aren’t clear. Make sure you have very specific measurements for achieving your goals.
In my case, it’s 11:59pm.
